Routine Ogden Mixenden Walk

A warm sunny session without the fuss of any special birds to trouble me 😁.
A couple of very noisy Buzzard were creating for about 8 minutes. The pitch of their calls indicated they are annual offspring’s.

Close to 200 LBBG were present as were 6/7 Common Gull a Herring or two and the BHGs. A single Cormorant seen as was a Grey Wagtail.

It’s worth mentioning that Mark a regular walker at Ogden, accurately described a Common Scoter he saw last night 2nd August.

Carrs Beck was busy with several Linnet, a couple of Goldfinch ditto Stonechat & a Dunnock.

A Green Woodpecker at Mixenden along with 6 BHG & a bunch of Canadas.

Confused At Ogden Happy At Carrs Beck

Convinced I’d got a YLG at Ogden until both JL and I viewed and photographed its legs. Pinkish wins the vote and I’ve decided to never get involved with gulls again

😠.

Plenty LBBG and a couple of Commons. The GCG came ashore for a short spell near the Ogden Clough channel.

2 Grey Heron.

Shame about the Skirden Clough area being overwhelmed by undergrowth reaching up to the tree branches and minimising views potentially of the thousands of waders that turn up at this time of year 🤣.
A noisy Nuthatch heard but not seen in the trees.

Carrs Beck proved satisfactory; a Whinchat perched for about 40 seconds on a fence post and 4 Stonechat were flitting around.
2 Greenfinch also seen along with 7 House Martin and 15 Swallow. A WW heard.

Ogden Water Route Proves Interesting

A dry breezy session this morning and worth the effort in my book 📕.

A drake Common Scoter came a bit closer to the E shoreline than is the norm 😊.

One f Tufted Duck. Loads of LBBG. I heard a one off loud Tern like call but didn’t see the bird so will remain frustrated and let it go ☹️. 2 Grey Heron.

1 each calling Tawny Owl & Green Woodpecker. 4 Swallow & 6 House Martin.
2 Whitethroat, 1 f  Stonechat. A large mixed flock of Goldfinch & Linnet.

Cold Edge Dams

A dry and breezy morning. 2 Curlew & a single Lapwing seen and heard in flight.
1 Kestrel on wires. A LEO was giving faint calls from a plantation.
3 Stonechat, 5 Pied Wagtail, 2 Swallow, 3 Linnet and a sizeable flock of Goldfinch.
Canadas, Greylags & a few Meadow Pipit.

This newly fledged pigeon was near the Queensbury COOP.

Disappointing Ogden Water Trek

Nothing exciting around Ogden today. Same gulls in reduced numbers and the GCG still present. A welcome break came in the form of having a chat/moan with JL.
Carrs Beck had 4 Stonechat zipping around a female adult and 3 juveniles.

The Buzzard drifted across to Stod Fold and circled a couple of times. A couple of Meadow Pipit plus a Linnet also present.
About time access to Mixenden Res was barred indefinitely methinks 😴💤

Ogden Water and Mixenden Res

A greyer cooler session this morning. A GCG or perhaps the same bird seen earlier this week was on Ogden along with 4 drake Tufted Duck.

2 Cormorant dropped in as I did just over half the circuit, passing a Grey Heron in Skirden Clough.

The usual gulls were presen in lower numbers than of late.
1 each Mistle & Song Thrush, 1 WW ditto Swallow.

Nothing on the drink at Mixenden. 1 screaming Jay heard and a pr Pied Wagtail flitting around.

Warm Wainstalls Walk

Very warm and hardly any breeze. Got my first annual UK Spotted Flycatcher looked like a dispersal given the location.
The pair of brooding Stonechat were once again very active.

1 Greenfinch, 14 Linnet & a few Goldfinch. 7/8 Swallows.

Haigh Cote Dam was rotten with Canadas and Greylags also a female Tufted Duck with 5 very young Tuftlings.
3 Blackbird, 2 Pied Wagtail, few House Sparrows ditto Meadow Pipit.
1 adult Lapwing 😊.
