Low Moor Dams

Harold Park Lake was the quietest I can recall; just 1 Tufted Duck seen among the usual throng. 8 Mute Swan including 6 cygnets all had unreadable (obscured) yellow or red leg rings on. Only gulls seen was a throng of Black Headed.

Park Dam was much busier but again held only BH Gulls. 14 Tufted Duck, 6 GC Grebe & a Little Grebe stood out. One of the adult GC Grebes was seen feeding a small Perch to one of 4 juveniles. A Grey Heron did me a favour and flew across my field of view close enough to get the camera going.

I went along the narrow channel hoping for a morsel, Kingfisher sprang to mind, but it was overgrown and coated with a dense toxic green algae 💀.

Back home the High Cross Lane fields held numerous BHG but not a single Lapwing. This is not good for the start of October; in previous years I’ve seen them gather a month earlier.
