After a most welcome Wheatear male at the start it deteriorated to the calls of Curlew and Lapwing but again not a single bleat from Red Grouse.
Golden Plover were gracing the same field at Cold Edge as my previous visit. I gave up trying to count at around 62 birds and there was a flock flying around upstairs that I could plainly hear if not get a visual on.
Something amazing took place: the farmer drove his vehicle toward the flock albeit slowly. The birds didn't panic, they all casually stood up and walked less than two metres before settling down en masse.
Two Oystercatcher were on one of the Dams. A Kestrel was seen flying close to a pr Curlew. The latter were again evident at Stod Fold.
