Queensbury To Cold Edge

An early reveille this am saw me get over ambitious and very disappointed with the paucity of birds. Nothing until I reached Soil Hill top where 4 Goldfinch, a Swallow and a Meadow Pipit were seen.

A 20 minute effort around the Ogden promenade proved the most lucrative with 2 Grey Heron, 7 Cormorant and the Gulls showing well. A single Common was in among the LBB crowd.

Then it was both uphill and downhill all the way. The NW stiff breeze kept everything down until I hit the Withens where 4/5 Meadow Pipit showed.
It was chronic going down the track to the Cold Edge dams: 3 Pied Wagtail, couple Swallow ditto Goldfinch  and a pr Dunnock only!

This is the fifth visit I’ve made since sometime in June where Stone/Whin Chat or Wheatear  has failed to show.
Construction of the building by Haigh Cote Dam has moved at a fair pace. It has almost totally obscured views of the small dam.
Time to consider scrapping visits to the area methinks.
